Bangladesh remittances in H1 of fiscal 2023-24 reach nearly 11 bln USD

DHAKA (Xinhua) -- Remittances from millions of Bangladeshis living and working overseas totaled nearly 11 billion U.S. dollars in the first half of the current fiscal from July 2023 to June 2024.    
Quoting provisional data, a Bangladesh Bank (BB) official, who preferred to be unnamed, told Xinhua on Tuesday that the "inflow of remittances from Bangladeshis increased by 2.9 percent year on year to 10.79 billion dollars in the first half of 2023-24 fiscal year."    
The BB official said the figure was recorded at 1.99 billion dollars in December alone, about 17 percent higher than a year earlier.    
The inflow of remittances from some 10 million Bangladeshis living and working in over 100 countries and regions, in the last 2022-23 financial year amounted to 21.61 billion dollars.    
The inflow remittance is one of the key sources of foreign exchange for Bangladesh and most of the remittances come from the Gulf countries.
