Columbia Outdoor Brand Expands Presence in Everest Region

Kathmandu: The renowned American international outdoor brand, 'Columbia', has extended its operations to the Everest region, in Namche Bazar. After establising its initial branch in Thamel and a second one in Pokhara, the brand has now reached Namche bazar.

The inaugural ceremony of the 'Columbia' brand showroom in Namche Bazar was conducted by Lakpa Gelu Sherpa, first Khumbu Icefall doctor. Dikila Lama Sherpa, Managing Director of Columbia, revealed that Himalayan Outdoor Gear Pvt. Ltd is the official seller of 'Columbia' in Nepal.

According to Sherpa, the decision to open a branch in Pokhara stemmed from the influx of tourists visiting popular Nepalese destinations such as the Annapurna Base Camp through Pokhara. Namche Bazar, being a pivotal route to Mount Everest and a bustling tourist hub, especially for trekkers and climbers, served as a strategic location for the third 'Columbia' branch.

'The brand aims to provide clothing and materials essential for mountain climbing and extreme cold conditions in tourists areas,' She informed. Columbia has plans to further expand its network across Nepal, with its main office headquartered in Portland, USA. Emphasized the unique attributes of the Columbia brand, citing its blend of technology and style.

Sherpa, who is a Board member of Federation of Women Entrepreneurs Association of Nepal is committed in promoting women entrepreneurs.

She stressed the importance of government attention to monetary policy and the implementation of special reforms in import and export. Advocating for women's capabilities, Sherpa conveyed a message that women entrepreneurs can thrive when provided with a comfortable environment. She urged the government to foster such an environment.

The Namche store of the Columbia brand holds the distinction of being the world's highest outdoor store, situated at an altitude of 3,665 meters. Sherpa announced plans to open additional branches in other regions of Nepal in the near future.
