Parliamentary committee approves report on capital market

Kathmandu: The Finance Committee of the Parliament has passed the 'Study Report on Capital Market and Current Market 2077' with some amendments.

The Committee had formed a five-member panel almost a year ago under the convenership of lawmaker Ram Kumari Jhankri. Pramila Rai, Met Mani Chaudhary, Ram Babu Kumar Yadav and Hem Kumar Rai were the other members of the panel.

The panel submitted its report some days ago to the Committee.

As decided, a company operated by taking Rs 1 billion in loan from the bank and financial institutions must be operated under the public limited framework.

Likewise, companies working in the theme of natural resources and means must be run as the public company no matter how much the capital they have.

Committee's President Krishna Prasad Dahal has expressed pleasure to the approval of the report saying that it was intended making the capital market more systematic.

He said that the companies run with the investment of billions would be brought in the stock market and the real sector would be brought on board. The report also incorporates the idea of issuing broker license to the commercial banks meant to expand the stock market.

In the Committee's meeting, former finance ministers Surendra Pandey and Gyanendra Bahadur Karki opined to bring the large-scale investment in the stock market for the expansion of the share market while calling for capacity building of the Nepal Stock Exchange.
