corporatenepal's editor Bilashi feted with SEJON Award

Kathmandu: Four economic journalists have been awarded with the Society of Economic Journalists-Nepal (SEJON) award-2017 Friday.

Sitaram Bilashi, editor of corporatenepal.com and Kiran Bhattarai of RSS were awarded under the digital category, while Krishna Acharya of Kantipur daily and Dilip Poudel of Nagarik awarded with letter of appreciation and cash prize under print media.

Binaya Banjara of Capital Magazine awarded with the letter of appreciation.

Vice-chairman of the National Planning Commission (NPC) Dr Swarnim Wagle handed over the prize and letter of appreciations to the awardees amidst a function held in the capital.

Speaking at the function, Dr Wagle said that media should focus on the economic agendas giving top priority for accelerating the economic activities in the country.

He appreciated the role of economic journalists to bring economic issues that help controlling the irregularities practiced in the infrastructure development activities, create good governance and spread positive message about the development of the country.

Stating the role of journalists and the press should disseminate the message of creating business environment in the country, he said that the media and journalists should work as watch dog of the society to bring investments and its mobilisation.

VP Wagle said that the journalists should focus on investigative journalism along with presenting data with critical analysis.

The issues of good governance will be challenged after formation of the federal structure with the successful conduction of the elections, Wagle said  the media should play constructive role for the good governance.

Governor of the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Dr Chiranjibi Nepal highlighted the role of journalists and media to raise economic issues instead of only giving political news coverage as the politicians have now started focusing on the economic agendas lately.

He expressed his hope that the economic activities would accelerate across the country with the formation of local bodies and the election to the federal government.

On the occasion, SEJON awarded four journalists recognising their top story related to economic issues.
