Italian Visually impaired Paraclimbing Champion Salvanini attempting Ganchenpo peak

Kathmandu: Ganchenpo peak (6.378m) is going to climbed for the first time from Sindhupalchok side.

Italian Paraclimbing teams visually impaired Paraclimbing world Champion Simone Salvanini, Everest climbers and International mountain guides Luca Montanari, D.Emilia Alessandro, Della Mura Marco along with the team of Nepali climbers have left for the Ganchenpo peak expedition on October 28, Saturday. 

11 members team includes four climbers from Italy and three from Nepal are climbing Ganchenpo. According to Rabindra Aryal, the founder of Garima Voyage Travels and tours, this expedition has been started with the aim of developing the future of the local community through sustainable tourism.

He added, 'the project of rural development and sustainable tourism, which was started jointly Garima Voyage Travels and tours and the New Vision Nepal, is to attract attention to the world.'

The technical support provides for the climbing by Italy-based SAT (Societa Alpinisti Tridentini), local authorities; Melamchi, Panchpokhri and Helambu, organization aims to achieve certification as a 'Sustainable destination' by 2024 which have a network of trails.

According to the organization, the participation of visually impaired athlete Salvanini, who is also the spokesperson of the United Nations, has made this campaign more meaningful. The organizers believe that the experience and success that he will achieve can give him a different perspective from other climbers.

Ganchenpo peak expedition team leader Aryal, President of New Vision Nepal, Ashok Sharma Bhatt, Sanu Sherpa, the world-famous Nepali mountain guide who has twice climbed all 14 mountains of 8,000 meters in the world , the first Everest climber of the Hyolmo community, Kanchi Dolma Hyolmo, and other nepali climbers Lal Bahadur Waiba, Ramkaji Tiwari, Sanjiv Gurung and other supporting team are participated.

This expedition cum route exploration campaign is managed by Trip Himalaya Treks & Expedition and supported by Garima voyage and new vision Nepal. While Mountain Guide Association of Nepal (MoGAN) will support the team with all ground handling and technical assistance.

Sanjiv Gurung, Coordinator of the Gangchenpo peak climbing team and the president of (MOGAN), said we are confident that this expedition  will be successful.

The team has aimed at completing the expedition from the new route in 19 days. Situated in Jugal Himalayan range, Ganchenpo peak is already a submitted peak.

However, the team will find a new route to the top of Ganchenpo from Sindhupalchok district and that is believed to be the shortest route to the summit of any peak above the 6000m from Kathmandu.

Similarly, amid a function organized at NMA Secretariat Nagpokhari Naxal, senior vice-president Thakur Raj Pandey, advisor Dr. Ganesh Gurung and secretary Dhan Bahadur Gurung jointly handed over the NMA flag to team leader Rabindra Aryal and bade farewell to all the expedition members with khadas on friday.

Gangchenpo Himal belongs to the Jugal mountain range of the Himalayan region of Nepal. It is located in Rasuwa District. Gangchenpo peak is close to Kathmandu, it has good commercial potential for climbing.

According to the organization, after the successful summit of this peak, it will be promoted worldwide, and become a tourism product based on dynamic and sustainable tourism.

This expedition initiated by Garima Voyage is supported by Montura, a well known outdoor company in Italy. Similarly, Panchpokhari Thangpal Rural Municipality, Nepal Parvatorhan Sangh Nepal, MOGAN and other individuals and organizations are supporting the campaign.

The ascent will begin from West camp (4800m), from where the 11-member climbing team plans to summit Ganchenpo peak in about 7 days.

A 37-years old Simone Salvanini is the Paralympic gold medalist. He had won gold and bronze medals at the 2011 Paraclimbing World Championship of Arco in category B2 for visually handicapped.
