FECOFUN says attempt to challenge community forest’s autonomy unacceptable

Kathmandu: The Federation of Community Forestry Users Nepal (FECOFUN) has lauded the federal parliament’s sub-committee’s decision to scrap the Scientific Forestry Management Procedure, 2071.    
The FECOFUN has made it clear that any attempt challenging the autonomy of the community forests was not acceptable.    
In a statement today, the FECOFUN has also sought actions to the culprits by annulling the scientific forest management procedures.    
FECOFUN has further demanded to correct the situation that curtails the existing legal and autonomous rights of the community forests and users committee on the recommendation of the panel of the Public Accounts Committee of the federal parliament.    
In the statement, President of FECOFUN Bharati Pathak has expressed concerns over the expansion of protected area by the probe panel adding that the forest in the Tarai and Chure range cannot be protected without participation of users’ groups.
