Kathmandu: The Chief of Army Staff 7th International Women’s Football Tournament has kicked off here on Sunday. Organised in collaboration with the All Nepal Football Association, Army Chief Purna Chandra Thapa inaugurated the competition at the sports ground at Army Headquarters, Bhadrakali, Kathmandu.
In the opening match, Tribhuvan Army Club registered a 9-0 defeat against State 1. Tribhuvan Army Club made a strong start with a goal in the second minute. For Tribhuvan Army Club, Sharmila Thapa Magar and Reshmi Kumari Ghising scored three goals each. Likewise, Bimala Chaudhary hit two goals and Sapana Lama one.
Army Chief Thapa honoured Magar with the ‘Excellent Player Award’ for today’s match. The league and knockout tournament has been participated by three departmental teams (Tribhuvan Army Club, Nepal Police Club and Armed Police Force Club), three from states (State 1, State 2 and State 5) and two from foreign countries (Sikkim in India and Bhutan).
Winner will receive Rs 300,000 and first runner-up Rs 150,000. Likewise, two top teams reaching semi-finals will get Rs 50,000 each. The best player will get a scooter. The best goalkeeper, midfielder, defender, forward and coach will receive Rs 10,000 each. The tournament will run until December 25.
